The second
film we watched was Trois Couleurs Bleu. The
film takes place in France and begins with a family of three riding in a car.
The family ends up in a car crash that leaves the father and daughter dead,
with the mother critically hurt. The mother who is Juliette Binoche the wife of a famous composer, ends up in a
hospital where she is trying to recollect he memory of what had happened. After
she finds out that her family is dead she leaves the hospital and is in a
melancholy state of mind. She returns home in where she gets her gatherings and
leaves to find another place to live at because all her memory of her family
was left at their mansion. She takes her blue glass chandelier and leaves to
Paris where she gets an apartment. In there she befriends Lucielle who is an
exotic dancer. She tries to give Lucielle moral support and give her reasoning
to not doing the things that she does. She also goes to visit her mother but
that becomes useless because her mother suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and thinks
that her daughter is her own sister. Julie then finds herself with Oliver who
is in love with her and also discovers that Oliver is going to finish one of
the music pieces that her husband left off at. Not only does Julie discover
that but she also finds out that her husband Patrice was having an affair with
a younger woman that she had no idea about. She also finds out that the
mistress is also having a baby from Patrice. Julie also tries to stop Oliver
from finishing the score but after finding out the secret of her husband her
and Oliver get together and decide to put the score together.
The theme
of this movie is that Julie is trying to forget her past, of her losing her
family by running away from it and also starting a new life so that she has no
thought of what she was involved with. I personally liked the movie although it
had a few dull moments but overall it was a good film and it also showed a
different aspect to what someone does when they lose a family. Usually people mourn
for their members but in this case Julie decided to let everything go and
unfortunately had to find out some dark secrets.
